Consignment

This program is for authors who have not used CreateSpace or Amazon. Authors must meet the following criteria:

• I published my own book, or I had my book published with a very small press. I did not use CreateSpace or Amazon publishing or printing services.

If you meet the above criteria, read on to see if your book would be a good fit for Mountain Shire Books’ Consignment Program.

To be considered for our inventory, books must be:

• Not published or printed by Amazon or any of its divisions such as CreateSpace.
• Professionally packaged. (Name of book on spine, etc.)
• Priced appropriately for the market.
• Suitable for our inventory.
• Published within the last 9 months or not yet published.
• Books dropped off for review will not be returned.

Author Guidelines:

• Authors must reside in Northern Colorado or the Front Range area.
• Authors must submit our Consignment Application Form to be considered for consignment.
• Mountain Shire Books only carries a maximum of 5 consignment titles at a time. If an author is interested in consignment while the store is at its maximum, they must wait until a consignment space is available.
• Authors will receive notice within 30 days of an author’s consignment request to be notified if their consignment request will be accepted.
• If an author’s book is selected, a time will be arranged to handle the contract, consignment fee ($39), and delivery of books to the store.

If the author’s book is accepted to Mountain Shire Books’ consignment program, the author agrees to the following Consignment terms:

• For each book, the Author (Consignor) will receive 58% of the purchase price (before sales tax). Mountain Shire Books (Consignee) will retain 42% of the purchase price.
• Mountain Shire Books will be responsible for sales tax due upon sale of the book and be responsible for the remission of sales tax.
• Mountain Shire Books agrees to initially take 3 copies of a book on consignment for 180 days (6 months).
• Books on consignment will be placed on the shelves, face out, in a highly visible location.
• Mountain Shire Books reserves the right to terminate a consignment contract after 3 months if no books have sold during that time or for any other reason.
• The Author is responsible for the delivery, shipment, and/or retrieval of their own books.
• The Author must respond to emails in a timely manner.
• Payment will be issued within 2 weeks of Mountain Shire Books receiving Author’s books.
• Authors have 1 month (30 days) after the consignment program ends to pick up their books. If the Author does not pick up their books within 1 month of the consignment program’s expiration or the three month no sale period, Mountain Shire Books will donate the books.

Mountain Shire Books is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen books.
